High Ball

Whether scrum halves boxing clever,
Or Fly halves in any weather;
Kicks skywards.
Snow capped, toe capped boots,
Kick off the leather; upshoots!
Spiralling up in stratosphere,
End over end, a present dear!
Lost up in the clouds,
But what goes up comes down.
The kick is only as good as the chase,
They race, reduce your time and space:
The sound of hooves of wingers, centres
Hell bent on hit, bad thoughts don't enter.
To clatter, tackle compete,
Perfect timing, hit complete!
Aerial bombardment,
is certainly your department.
But focus mind on glowing oval orb,
Magnetic arms draw in, absorb.
Your choice, to wait and call the mark,
Or leap to claim plyometric prize,
Catch, comply, arise.
Above the salmon leaps,
The ball you have for keeps;
You land and skywards pray,
Glorious catch of the day!
They cheer out in the stands
"He's got a safe pair of hands!"

Full Back

Fifteen, the full back,
Last line of defence;
Bristling bull smacks
With tackling immense!

Salmon leaping,
Calling the shots;
Hang on pill keeping,
High ball drawing lots.

Marshal defenders,
The eyes and the ears.
Last man offender.
Scores tries shows no fear!

Attacking dimension,
Wide or on shoulder;
The knack and intention,
Stride of strong foot soldier.

Wide open spaces,
Covering the ground,
Fielding the places,
To break and dumbfound!

Relish the lose kick,
Running back three,
Punish with quick flick,
Set wandering free!

Gentle reminder:
Defend and attack,
Greatest touch finder,
Cut them some slack.

Penalty taker,
Calm under pressure,
Can be play maker
But meisure for meisure:

Converted from centre,
Or fly half or winger,
Concerted to enter
The fray as gun slinger!

Fast hands, fast feet;
To Kick or to run,
The eyes on the street:
Full Back. Number one!

The Club

Respect the club, the fans, the players,
Club house history with all its layers:
Photos snapped, formations framed,
Past players presented (some untamed!)
The thick, the thin, the good and bad,
Times together, this club's no fad!
Friends in shed and tight team off it,
Character's built for all to profit!
Respect, don't be too high and mighty,
Trip back down could be unsightly;
Bridges build and do not burn,
You respect , respect be earned.
Club men give their heart and soul,
Receive back much, return ten fold:
The club, the pitch, this beating heart;
The hub, this wonderful work of art!
